Over 20? Seeking a new challenge? Would you like to develop skills, leadership qualities and gain qualifications too?
As the backbone of our organisation we're always on the lookout for high-calibre individuals to become volunteers, helping to run the activities that play such an important role in the lives of our cadets. The activities we provide cannot run without the proper staff and instructors to help run and support them. From squadron led training, to shooting, to spending a night or two out on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, cadets rely on the staff to make them happen.
All kinds of people make up our volunteer staff, coming from a range of backgrounds and interests. Although experience of working with young people, or having specialist knowledge in the activities we do would be an advantage, it's not essential, and we will train and support you at every stage in order to help you become the instructor you want to be.
That said, you'll have some personal qualities that are essential, such as patience, maturity and adaptability along with an understanding of young people and their needs.
So no matter what previous expereince you have, military or otherwise, we look to provide the best experience for our cadets and you could be just what we're looking for.
We rely on our volunteers to help us operate as effectively as possible. Being well organised is an obvious must, ideally with good managerial and administrative skills, and an ability to listen to problems and deal with them tactfully and appropriately.
Really show your skills in these areas and you could be taking on more responsibility and moving up through the ranks as an officer or senior non-commissioned officer (SNCO) within the Royal AIr Force Air Cadets. From initially joining as a Civilian Instructor you could then transition into being a member of uniformed staff withing the Air Cadets following a selection process that will take you from your local squadron to the home of RAF officer training at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.
